Unlock Hidden Profits in Ice Hockey Betting
While watching the European Handball Championship 2024, I noticed a trend that could be lucrative for ice hockey bettors. Bookmakers consistently underestimate the odds of overtime matches, providing us with an opportunity to exploit this pricing error.
Over the past 7 years, 22.03% of ice hockey matches from the NHL, AHL, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Germany (DEL), and World Championships have gone into overtime. This corresponds to average odds of 4.54. However, bookmakers offer us average odds of 4.65, giving us an average advantage of 0.11 odds points per bet.
This means that if we had blindly bet on overtime for all games in these leagues over the past 7 years, we would have made a profit of 728.64 units.
While this trend has been consistent, there are certain leagues that stand out as better opportunities for this strategy (see screenshot). However, it remains to be seen whether this trend will continue in the future.
